The Olympics

The Olympic Games is one of the most important things in the world. And I think, this is the first time that I join the Olympics, even though I am not in the game. It was quite difficult at first because we didn’t have any idea. But after we read some articles, we got this idea --- The Olympic Games’ cake. We felt really happy after we finished this poster!

Taiwanese aborigines

“Taiwanese aborigines” is the term commonly applied in reference to the indigenous peoples of Taiwan.  They are Austronesian peoples, with linguistic and genetic ties to other Austronesian ethnic groups, such as peoples of the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Polynesia, and Oceania (Hill et al. 2007; Bird, Hope & Taylor 2004). The issue of an ethnic identity unconnected to the Asian mainland has become one thread in the discourse regarding the political status of Taiwan.

Here are something about “Headhunting”.
The Highland tribes were renowned for their skill in headhunting, which was a symbol of bravery and valor (Hsu 1991:29–36). Almost every tribe except the Yami (Tao) practiced headhunting. Once the victims had been dispatched the heads were taken then boiled and left to dry, often hanging from trees or shelves constructed for the purpose. A party returning with a head was cause for celebration, as it would bring good luck. The Bunun people would often take prisoners and inscribe prayers or messages to their dead on arrows, then shoot their prisoner with the hope their prayers would be carried to the dead. Han settlers were often the victims of headhunting raids as they were considered by the aborigines to be liars and enemies. A headhunting raid would often strike at workers in the fields, or employ the ruse of setting a dwelling alight and then decapitating the inhabitants as they fled the burning structure. It was also customary to later raise the victim's surviving children as full members of the tribe. Often the heads themselves were ceremonially ‘invited' to join the tribe as members, where they were supposed to watch over the tribe and keep them safe. The indigenous inhabitants of Taiwan accepted the convention and practice of headhunting as one of the calculated risks of tribal life. The last groups to practice headhunting were the Paiwan, Bunun, and Atayal groups (Montgomery-McGovern 1922). Japanese rule ended the practice by 1930, but some elder Taiwanese can recall the practice (Yeh 2003).

Something I learned about food fair

We have to eat every day, just like we have to study. We read everything in our book and we remember them, but we never care about what we put in our mouth, what we use, even what we do during we are eating! That sounds weird but it’s true: What we eat is as important as what we study. But we seldom think about it.

From the garden party, I learned about Taiwanese traditional food, like “steam burger”, “spring roll ice cream” and “Hakka ground tea”. All of them are delicious, and they are cheap, too. We can also make them at home by ourselves. It’s not difficult at all.

From the video about French fries, I learn that a lot of food maybe tastes delicious. But it’s really disgusting when you find out how it was made and what they put in. You can’t imagine what they have added in it, so the best way to avoid it is to cook and eat AT HOME!!!

From the lesson of Taiwanese table manners, I noticed that some manners are really important but we never think about them. Some of them are specific in certain places, and some of them are common in whole Taiwan.

From this project, I really learned many things about Taiwan. In fact, time is not enough. I think we have to spend more time knowing more about Taiwan, the place we live.

My summer vacation

This year, I didn't have enough time to play, but my parents arranged an excellent trip which had only 5 days. I had a really great time in these 5 days.

We went to Taichung to visit my cousin on the first day. We lived in her home that night. We also talked about our school life and played some fun games. It was a comfortable and happy night.

The second day, we drove to Yijan. We lived in a hostel for two days at there. The hostel's owner is a friendly person. He is a fisherman. That afternoon, he took us out to the sea and sit on his own boat to catch the fish. It was a wonderful experience. We saw many animals and we also saw a special fish. When we caught it, it would cry!! At last, we also caught some crabs, shrimps and even an eel!!
However, it was nearly 6 p.m., so we had to go back.

On the third, fourth and fifth days, we went snorkeling, visited the Juming Museum and Lanyang Museum .We also lived in another hostel. They were fun, too, but I like the second day most.
Thanks to my parents, I had a really fantastic time in this summer even it was really short!!

A trip to Chau Tsai wetland

During this field trip, I learned many things. I learned many things about different kinds of animals and plants and how we can save the earth. We can build many wetlands and grow many trees. We can bring our own bag when we go shopping. We can reuse many things and just buy the things we need. We should turn off the light when we don’t need it. Also, we can tell our friends and parents to save the earth together. The most important thing is that we have to take action!!

A nightmare

Then I saw an alien beside my baby. The babysitter was dying. There was a strange thing on her body and her face. It was just like a large snake but there were two wings on it. It had a big fat ugly body. I screamed. Suddenly, the alien saw me. It took my baby out of the bed. But my baby didn't move. She didn't even shake her hands!! I cried out loud. Then, the alien threw my baby out of the window. I shouted"NOOOO!!!!!!"Fortunately, another alien caught my baby.But the next moment, they took my baby into the UFO. I cried more loudly. Then the alien walked closer to me, slowly and quietly. After a while, it touched me.I felt something strange on my face. Then, I woke up. I saw my baby touching my nose!I'm glad it was only a dream.
